Dad's Cancer :: One Year Later

A year ago our lives got turned upside down. My Dad, known as Kat to his friends, and Tha to my kids, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer on September 21, 2022. He had been experiencing some coughing that wouldn’t go away. This led to a CT scan to reveal troubling masses in his lungs and lymph nodes. This then led to a diagnostic procedure to confirm the worst news. A week or so later, an MRI showed that his cancer had also already spread to his brain as well. The prognosis was not good. His symptoms declined so quickly and we found ourselves living in the hospital with him fighting for his life. (Photos are shared with Dad’s permission)

Diagnosis Day :: We’re in this together.

Everything happened so fast and life changed in a way that I could never imagine. Looking back, it honestly all felt like a dream. I felt like each step just brought more and more bad news. And our hope of his recovery felt more and more distant. But through it all, my Dad kept a smile on his face. He held a strong resolve to do anything that was asked of him, charming all of people who helped us along the way. I would never expect anything else of him.
