From Vision to Reality : How Nothing feels Impossible Anymore
Seeing a dream come true this week...
Hi Friends!
Welcome to the Crank & Boom Substack and welcome to all the new friends joining us here!
In this corner of the universe, I have the opportunity to share more in-depth content about life, ice cream, Crank & Boom and anything else you can imagine. By being here, you are supporting C&B in a new way and I am so excited to connect with you on a more personal level in this space.
I just recorded Episode 37 of the Crank & Boom Podcast this week. The topic was GRATITUDE AND VISIONING. I shared a story that will come full circle later this week as I will be the featured speaker for the Diversity Speaker Series with the Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives at the University of Kentucky.
I’ve been speaking publicly on panels, keynotes, breakout presentations and more since 2013. However, this one event in particular is extra special to me for many reasons. The main reason is this:
About a year ago, I had an in-person meeting here in Lexington with Laura, the owner of Four Eyes Media, our podcast production partner, to chat about the vision I had for our new podcast. I had a small window of time where I wasn’t on hospital duty with my Dad, who was battling Stage 4 Lung Cancer, but it was so important that we chat about my WHY behind the podcast.
(SIDEBAR: Dad just got his latest scans and he is ALL CLEAR! This means he is still in remission and continues to thrive in recovery ❤️)
I sat with Laura on the patio at GoodFellas Pizza in the Distillery District and chatted about what my dreams for the podcast would be. I longed for a platform to share my experiences so that other budding and seasoned entrepreneurs would feel less alone. I wanted a place to share our stories in more depth so that we could provide tactics for others to chase their own dreams. I also hoped for myself, that the podcast would lead to more speaking opportunities for me as I grow as a business leader.
Fast forward to today and I am prepping for my event at UK that is happening because John Blaine, Director at the Center of Graduate & Professional Diversity Initiatives, sent me this email a few weeks ago:
WOW! The podcast was launched in March and 30+ episodes later, countless hours of recording, planning, promoting, manifesting, and working, working, WORKING — my vision is finally becoming a reality this week.
It’s easy to give up in the world of entrepreneurship because so many dreams never make it to reality. It feels like you’re on an endless treadmill of effort without any results. So, when a vision actually does come to fruition and you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor, the prize feels extra special. The fact that this event is centered around inclusion and diversity makes it feel even sweeter to me.
I’m deeply passionate about being a voice for traditionally marginalized communities — specifically women of color. If sharing my story can inspire other women to own their voice, use their voice and take action to make positive changes in the world — that’s a win for everyone. I have always been open about challenges I have faced in my entrepreneurial journey and I want to use those scars as a symbol of hope, perseverance and grit so that others can achieve their own goals and of course, feel less alone in the process.
The moral of this story is to never give up on your vision. Be patient. Work hard. Lean in.
After being an entrepreneur for almost 20 years, I have been able to realize one dream after another—some big, some small. Most of them never worked out, but the ones that did are the ones that really counted. It has made me feel a sense of peace because I don’t feel like any obstacle is insurmountable at this point. Everything is figure-outable and nothing is impossible anymore.
If you are here in LEXINGTON, I’d love for you to join me for this FREE EVENT hosted by UK’s Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives.
